ARAMID MATERIALS. LIGHTWEIGHT POSSIBILITIES.[email protected]
Applications

Less mass.
More possibilities.

Start with the job the panel has to do. Then select the core, skins and manufacturing process around it.

Aerospace interiors and secondary structures

Aramid honeycomb is used in lightweight sandwich structures such as aircraft interior panels and selected fairings. Core choice depends on the specific part, panel construction and applicable approval requirements.

For interiors, define the complete assembly—including decorative finishes and adhesive—when discussing fire, smoke and other required tests. A result for one constituent material cannot stand in for qualification of the finished component.

In the inquiry: identify the drawing, material specification, traceability requirements and acceptance documentation.

Radomes and curved structures

Some applications require both low weight and curved surfaces. Formable honeycomb geometries can help the core conform to the intended shape, but forming capability is specific to the material and process.

For radio-frequency applications, the entire laminate system affects transmission. Evaluate frequency, moisture, skin construction and adhesive together; the nonmetallic character of the core alone does not prove suitability.

In the inquiry: include the contour, radius, thickness, orientation and electromagnetic requirements where relevant.

Marine and performance structures

Weight-sensitive marine components can use honeycomb sandwich construction when the design and manufacturing process suit the service conditions. Moisture paths, damage tolerance and attachment details deserve attention early in the design.

Define how the edges, penetrations and joints are closed. Compare the full panel system with alternatives rather than choosing on core density alone.

In the inquiry: describe water exposure, impact expectations, skin material and edge details.

Transport and industrial panels

Lightweight covers, partitions and equipment panels can benefit from sandwich construction. The important trade-off may be stiffness, handling weight, dimensional stability, surface quality or a combination of these.

Not every industrial application needs a high-performance aramid core. Compare honeycomb and foam options against the actual service conditions, fabrication method and cost target.

In the inquiry: state panel span, supports, working loads, operating conditions and finish requirements.

From application idea to a tested panel

Use the material guides to shortlist candidate constructions. Then develop a representative panel, including joints and inserts, and verify it against the application’s acceptance criteria. Published examples of use help identify possibilities; they do not approve a new design.

The specification checklist provides a practical starting point for this discussion.
